Jeep Wrangler Raffle to Benefit CGHS Athletics

A Jeep Wrangler is being raffled off on November 5th at the American Heritage home football game. Tickets are $100, with only 600 being sold. You do not need to be present to win. The Jeep is a 2010 four-door, fully loaded, including: automatic transmission, satellite radio, and a three-inch lift kit with on/off road tires. Its estimated MSRP is $38,500. Jessica Wynn Commits to Pittsburgh

Senior outside hitter Jessica Wynn has committed to playing volleyball for the University of Pittsburgh. A team captain this year, she was named first team All-County by both the Sun-Sentinel and The Miami Herald last year. The Panthers have qualified for the NCAA tournament eleven times.  8/31/10

Lady Chiefs Defeat Pompano 3-2

The girls' volleyball team opened their season Tuesday at home with a 19-25, 25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 15-11 victory over Pompano Beach. Senior outside hitter Jessica Wynn had 33 kills, 22 digs, and 11 service points. Junior defensive specialist Sara Jacobs had 18 digs and three service points against the Tornadoes. The Lady Chiefs host Olympic Heights Thursday at 5:00 in a district match.  8/31/10

Football Hosts Taravella Friday at 4:00

The Chiefs kick off the regular season Friday, with Taravella visiting "The Furnace." Gibbons has an 11-1 all-time record against the Trojans on the gridiron, dating to Taravella's opening in 1981, including a 32-14 win last year. The visiting squad will be led by fourth-year coach Dan Marguriet. Taravella principal Shawn Cerra '89 is a CGHS alumnus. The Trojans are coming off a tough season, in which they finished 3-7 playing in the competitive District 9-6A. Admission is $5. Concessions and merchandise will be on sale. Alumni are welcome under the Alumni Association tent.  8/31/10

Boys Golf Team 3rd at Doral Monday

The golf team opened its season with a third place finish at the famed Blue Monster course at the American Heritage Invitational Monday. The Chiefs (313) topped Cypress Bay (316) and defending state champion Benjamin (317). American Heritage (300) and St. Thomas Aquinas (311) topped the field at the Doral Golf Resort. Sophomore Sean Smothers (72) tied for the lowest score in the tournament with an even par.

Football Kickoff Classic at McArthur Tomorrow

Fall CGHS Cheerleaders Announced

Forty-three girls have been chosen to form this Fall's CGHS cheerleading squads. The team cheers at all football games, home and away. The cheer squads for basketball season, and the competition team, will be announced later this semester. The team is coached by Ms. Susan Hanks. The entire team is listed below.  8/24/10

Volleyball Hosts Preseason Classic Wednesday

The Lady Chiefs kickoff their season Wednesday (the 25th) at home with a five-school preseason jamboree. Gibbons hosts Westminster Academy at 4:00, and Miami Palmer Trinity at 7:00. Other games include: Pompano Beach-Pembroke Pines Charter at 3:00, Palmer Trinity-Pemrboke Pines Charter at 5:00, and Pompano Beach-Westminster at 6:00.  8/20/10

Gibbons Dance Team Honored in Miami

The CGHS Dance Team took home several awards from the National Dance Alliance Camp in Miami this past weekend. The girls placed first overall with a team dance they had learned just last week. They were also recognized with the Spirit Stick (every day), the Overall Technical Excellence Award, and the all-around team award. The four days of choreography and competition were done at the Downtown Hilton.

Boys Golf Team Announced

Sean Smothers, Alex Lutz, Wil Hart, Sebastian Brinkerhoff, Anthony Gardner, Jordan Selbach, Drake Fulmer, James Gunther, Austin Megna, and Tony Terraneo made the Chiefs' 2010 Golf Team. Selbach, a senior, will serve as captain. Coach Dale Brady returns for his fourth year at the helm of the boys squad.
